Senior Analogue Design Engineer

As Senior Analogue Design Engineer you will be based in the Bristol offices of an organisation, headquartered in the U.S with a wide global reach and still a size where their staff can influence and make an impact through great performance and innovation.

As Senior Analogue Design Engineer you will be joining a team which is a leading supplier of laser driver, TIA, and integrated transceiver ICs to the optical communications market and whose products sell in high volumes in fibre to the home (FTTH), wireless backhaul, and data centre application spaces.

Role Overview:

The role of the Senior Analogue Design engineer is to be a leading member of the core team with extensive expertise in the technicality of circuit and chip design. The step up to senior level is marked by taking ownership of significant blocks of the chip, and on smaller developments taking the chip Technical Lead role.

In this position there will be close interaction with the wider engineering team: product definition, validation, applications and test engineering. The Senior Engineer is a seasoned professional who takes full responsibility for delivering designs on time and is trusted to assure quality in those designs. At this level, proactivity and innovation in shaping the overall architecture is also expected.

Essential Experience:

  • 9+ years of relevant industry experience in Analogue IC design.
  • Good BSc or equivalent degree in Electronic Engineering
  • Have fluent spoken and written English
  • Demonstrate a deep and intuitive understanding of analogue circuit design practice
  • Has taken a technical lead role on one or more chip developments
  • RF (1GHz +) analogue circuit design experience

Preferred:

  • Experience of a range of process nodes: CMOS, BiCMOS
  • Expert user of Cadence tools (IC6) and Calibre
  • Solid understanding of circuit layout techniques
  • Understanding of practices for assuring device reliability and high yield (DFM)
  • Has shown innovation in previous work (patents or technical advances)
  • Circuit modelling and system verification experience (Verilog-AMS, SystemVerilog, etc.)
  • Coding skills - Scripting (Ocean/SKILL)
  • Understanding of design best practice and a disciplined development flow
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Good time management skills and ability to simultaneously support multiple projects
  • Experience of working with marketing and engineering teams outside of design.
  • Mentored more junior colleagues, and led a small project team

Added value:

  • IC Design-specific training or relevant post-graduate qualification (MSc)
  • RF (25 GHz+) circuit design experience
  • Understanding of optoelectronic device physics and behaviour
  • Knowledge of optoelectronic communications - standards, applications, module specification
