Client
Our client is the long-standing international vehicle fleet management company SHB. Over the last two years they have grown by fifty percent and continue to win major contracts. Busier than ever, they are looking to supplement their Manchester team with an enthusiastic, experienced HGV Chargehand and work on a variety of fleet vehicles at their workshop.
Role
The main responsibility of this role will be leading a team of technicians (4-10) during the maintenance and repair of fleet HGVs and a wide range of fleet vehicles. As Chargehand, among other tasks, the candidate will be required to: carry out vehicle inspections; assist with problem repairs; help to train apprentices; and perform quality checks
You'll be expected to be proficient in a number of areas including: electrical, mechanical and hydraulic fault diagnosis, basic welding and metal working, if authorized. Setting and operating of machine tools and equipment, if authorized vehicle testing duties, when suitably qualified
Essential Skills include:
Mechanical or electrical qualifications
Ideally a minimum of ten year's commercial experience working as a Vehicle Technician
Valid UK Driving Licence
NVQ Level 3, City Guilds Level 3, IMI Level 3, SVQ Level 3 or extensive experience working on a wide range of cars and commercial vehicles
English at communicative level
Responsibilities:
Repair and maintenance of a fleet of vehicles
Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy
Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems
Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications
Diagnose faults and malfunctions
Repair and maintenance of: electrical systems, alignments, steering and suspension, hydraulic systems, cooling and heating systems and drive train components
Perform scheduled maintenance services
Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts
Road tests vehicles when required
Keeps shop area neat and clean after each repair
Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner
Must be willing and able to work overtime when required
