Duties

  • Working with design engineers to maximize DFMA opportunities, active participation in design reviews and project reviews to meet project milestones.
  • Specify & design new production tooling and assembly aids within 3D CAD environment and perform tooling trials. Manage maintenance & repair of existing tooling.
  • Manufacture of 'Special To Type' test equipment, either in-house or subcontract.
  • Develop the manufacturing process and write Manufacturing Instructions.
  • Specify, install & purchase tests equipment, machinery & hand tooling for the cell.
  • Coordinating low volume build activity at prototype release standards.
  • Establish Manufacturing cell / facility in readiness for full rate production.
  • ERP system (BOMs, Routings and Work Centers) to optimize manufacture flow.
  • Leading a small team to manage the transition to full rate production.
  • Provide support on Lean activates such as value stream mapping, standard work, 5S and Kanban.
  • General support to the Manufacturing Engineering department on non-project tasks at the discretion of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Electro-Mechanical engineering experience with an ONC/HND/Degree in an appropriate technical discipline with 5 year or more experience in a manufacturing support role.
  • Ideally prior experience of the defence sector and / or low voltage, high power electrical systems.
  • A minimum 2 years' experience of tooling design within a 3D CAD environment.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels and good commercial awareness.
  • 6 Sigma - Green belt trained/certified or sound knowledge of SPC.
  • Cost focused & self-motivated team player.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Awareness of AS9100
  • Experience of any of the following systems/software would be a distinct advantage:

Seimens Nx 8.5, Ideas or Catia - 3D CAD

IFS - MRP system

EDSC - Teamcenter v.4.0 or v.10.0

MK Systems - AutoMeg
