My client is a leading engineering business based in the North East. They are looking to recruit a Lead Buyer to head up their procurement team. You will managing and motivating a team to produce Procurement and Supply strategies that provide the company with an optimum Value for Money through maximising Economy (Price & Terms), Efficiency (Customer Service) and Effectiveness (Quality, Safety & Environment)

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To determine and implement strategies and tactics necessary to establish supply excellence at lowest ultimate cost for my client.
  • To compile, propose and control the annual Procurement materials and services budget so that company business planning and decision making is facilitated.
  • To agree targets with all direct and functional reports in order to measure individual performance based on lowest ultimate cost criteria and by issue of procedures, continuous audit and institution of appropriate training ensure that these targets are achieved.
  • To assess, influence and control by negotiation supplier price, quality, and delivery performance in order to obtain and maintain optimal value for money.
  • To initiate and support cost reduction projects in order to satisfy customer requirements at lowest ultimate cost.
  • To develop a supply chain approach this ensures minimum inventory and lead-times, consistent with demand.
  • To take the lead in visibly supporting Manufacturing, Services, Project Management, Engineering, Sales and Marketing Teams in order to bring products to the market place on budget and on time.
  • To identify and develop new sources of supply and new product and service opportunities world-wide in order to maintain optimal value for money and maximum competitive advantage.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of modern, sophisticated Procurement & Supply Chain Management techniques, practices and procedures; Knowledge of the needs of Manufacturing, Project Management, Site Services & Finance functions.

Skills

  • Proven influencing and negotiating skills
  • Analytical and conceptual skills to recognise the future direction of the industry and the future sourcing needs of my client
  • Commercial acumen to ensure that decisions are made on an understanding of the market and the dynamics of the business.
  • People skills to lead and motivate a team and to build relationships with stakeholders

Experience & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years experience of high value commodity, finished goods and services Procurement, including at least 5 years experience of personally buying Steel internationally for a large scale Manufacturing business.
  • Extensive experience of sophisticated supply chain and large supply base management gained across several industries.
  • Experience of managing Procurement staff of a mixed range of abilities and experience.
  • Degree Level Intellect and Qualified to CIPS
