Salary: Negotiable

Profile

Our client is a UK based energy company developing a new generation of power solutions.

They are currently looking to recruit a Contract Manager to join their growing Contract team. This is a unique opportunity to join a company from its inception and help shape the Commercial function in one of the most exciting projects in the UK today. You will aid in the development of robust processes and a reliable supply chain for numerous projects.

Job Role

Reporting to the Head of Capital Contracts the Contract Manager will be responsible for negotiating contractual terms and conditions for multibillion Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contracts for new-build nuclear power plants.

As part of a multidisciplinary negotiation team, part of a dynamic development organisation, the Contract Manager will play both internal and external roles.

Within the business, the Contract Manager will liaise with different functions and business areas, at different levels, to drive efficient and effective compliance with statutory, regulatory, and business requirements (technical, safety, security, environmental, "Intelligent Customer", etc.) in an EPC contractual context.

In front of the EPC Contractor and other stakeholders (Sponsors, Lenders, DECC, etc.), the Contract Manager will negotiate EPC Contract terms and conditions with a view of minimising whole life project costs; efficiently allocating risks between the company and contractor; setting out effective contractual incentives in order to support cost, completion and performance guarantees; and attracting competitive equity and debt financing for the project.

Duties

  • Progress negotiations and agreements in accordance with project development plans, and agreed business principles. Seek internal approvals as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal customers, external advisers, and business stakeholders.
  • Co-ordinate the inputs of functional experts on all commercial/contractual matters.
  • Undertake contractual/commercial review of technical documentation to establish suitability and consistency.
  • Develop, maintain and manage (jointly with the Project Counsel) the full set of EPC Contract documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualification to degree level in a technical discipline.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of (contractual and legal) terms and conditions for fixed price, turn-key EPC Contracts, and target price arrangements.
  • Significant experience in EPC Contract negotiations (selling and/or buying side), as part of complex project finance transactions in the energy or infrastructure industries.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally.
  • Team player, with sound communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to build robust arguments to support risk allocation decisions.
  • Natural leadership skills and ability to operate within dynamic organisations in project development phases.
  • Ability to deliver under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and health and safety requirements, and appreciation of principles and practices of the UK nuclear industry.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and fluency in English.
