Quality Manager

My client a leading Tewkesbury based manufacturer is currently looking for a Quality Manager / Engineer to join them on a permanent basis. Reporting directly to the MD this position will have responsibility for three direct reports and will provide a high level of support to customers in relation to product quality.

Key Duties:

Position Overview

This is a key leadership role maintaining and continuously developing the Quality Management Systems to improve operational performance and maintain accreditations including ISO90001.

You will be responsible for the day to day management of the Quality Organisation driving continuous improvement in its performance to deliver a no faults forward right-first-time culture within the company.

The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining and improving personal and facility Security Aspects and standards within the company

The Quality Manager will need to Coach, Mentor and Train staff at all levels in the organisation to improve their performance in using Quality Tools, Techniques and Methods.

The candidate will be required to introduce and sustain all quality aspects for new products systems and processes into the workplace.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain and continuously improve company policy and procedures that make up the Quality Management System
  • Assessing customer quality requirements and ensuring that these are met
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis and Problem Resolution activities
  • Ensure company Security Aspects are applied, maintained and updated in the work place through review, audit and communication at all levels.
  • Specifying quality requirements of raw materials with suppliers
  • Investigating and setting standards for Quality/Health and Safety
  • Ensuring that manufacturing processes comply with standards at both national and international level
  • Working with operations staff to establish standards, systems and procedures
  • Writing management/technical reports and customers' charters
  • Determining , developing and delivering training needs
  • Coaching and mentoring of staff at all levels in quality methods and practice
  • Acting as a catalyst for change and improvement in quality performance
  • Manage internal audit programme with accreditation bodies, customers
  • Recording, analysing and distributing statistical information
  • Establishing metrics for monitoring and reporting operational performance
  • Managing the Quality Team, including leave, absence, performance and appraisal process.
  • Carry out audits of key suppliers as required
  • Manage 5S factory housekeeping system
  • Support the Introduction of LEAN working across the organisation

Requirements - Knowledge/Skill

  • Detailed knowledge of ISO quality systems and international quality standards
  • Writing Quality Plans and Procedures
  • Configuration and change management processes
  • Continual improvement techniques such as Lean Six Sigma
  • Reporting, review and resolution of non-compliance
  • Root Cause Analysis and problem resolution techniques such as 8D
  • Good level of computer literacy using MS Office suite
  • Ability to chair and contribute to meetings

Requirements - Experience

  • Considerable proven experience in a similar role preferably in the automotive, aerospace or nuclear sector
  • Proven track record of influencing and engaging with senior management in driving quality values and initiatives
  • Preferred successfully undertaking a senior quality management role in a Precision Engineering company

Requirements- Qualifications

  • Relevant Quality Management and Audit professional qualifications
  • Degree level education would be a distinct advantage.
  • Preferred Minimum HNC/HND in Mechanical/ Production engineering discipline
  • Preferred Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

Key Performance Indicators

  • Ensure all customer requirements on Quality are met
  • Manage and report monthly on continual improvement systems
  • Manage and report on ISO quality Systems performance
  • Maintain ISO 9001 accreditation with no major non-compliances
  • Maintain Bronze accreditation of SC21 and drive performance to achieve Silver award
